Obviously those wonderfully delicious hawker food in Penang didn't agree with mum O.o
Her tooth was acting up, so she contributed it to all the heaty food she's been having.
Right. Except it's not right.
We came back before Christmas and she spent the next couple of days nursing a slightly uncomfortable toothachy feeling.
On the 30th Dec, Saturday, it got worse, so she got dad to take her to the clinic. Which the doc then prescribed her some sort of jaw numbing medication...I think.
Come Monday, THE awesome first day of 2007. Which happened to be a public hols due to Hari Raya Korban (I think), the minor uneasiness exploded into a full blown toothache. O.o And it hurts. Real bad. Since dad had some wall to repaint, mum and I went off in search of a dentist.
Which we were painting one side of teh gate the other day, some bangladesh guy came over and asked if we wanted help. Actually, we would be able to do it, walls are kacang to paint. But dad was worried, since the back portion was pretty high up. No point risking your life just for the darn wall. One slip and you're doomed. So yea, the fella said he would get his friend as well.
I think we kinda got duped. kinda. Because the fella said he would include the cost of the brushes along, and come the next day, he asked for money to buy them -.- Cheater. And did a pretty slopping job on the whole paint job too. At any rate, the walls are repainted, somewhat. With a few finishing touches.
As you all probably know, dentists do NOT open on public hols. So try as we might, in SS14, SS15, there was no dentists on work. Our last resort was back to the doctor. Mum explained that the medication given earlier was probably not right. Her tooth is hurting not the jaw. He gave her an type of antibiotic for the tooth nerves or something. And a 2 days MC, enough for us to visit the dentist.
Tuesday, we went to this one dentist which was open. Our usual, company delegated dentist wasn't open yet. Yea. She told mum, nothing could be done unless the pain subsided, so she'd have to finish the antibiotic. O.o Since it hurts now, it's gonna hurt SO much more if she tried to do anything to the tooth right now.
Wednesday, we went back to ask for another few days of MC. The dentist wouldn't do anything and the tooth hurts like mad. Mum couldn't sleep at night anf would even have a slight fever. She enquired that it still hurts, so he mentioned something about sometimes the tooth have dual infection and gave us another medication. To go along with the earlier one. Eeeeeeeeeeeeee Now she complained of some sort of lump near the tooth.
Thursday. Seriously. We went back to the dentist. The same one who told us to come back later. She tried to drain the out pus out of the lump, and was pretty surprise that it hardened. O.o So err....she referred us to UH, a professor in the dental faculty. Since it was close to 4pm, she told us to rush there, the prof said he would wait for us.
What the crap? -.- UH? NOW? They close 4.30, it's almost 4pm already.
Bestest part, I have yet to actually drive there. HAHAHA XD
Dad calls. Said we could ask GuMa to drive us over, if we drop by MaMa's. Right, we're late. Mum says she knows. I said I can only estimate how to get there.
Ohoho~!
Some genius we are.
Surprisingly, we actually reached, albeit I did tertook a wrong turning, but somehow still end up there.
UH. I had no clue where to go. It's huge. Followed signs and cars saje. We found it somehow.
And then, the entrance. The whole building says Dental Faculty, but where the heck is the entrance? -.- We saw this elderly couple and asked for their help. And then, mum in her haste and at the old folks' warning that it'ls gonna close soon if we don't hurry, ran and fell. O.O ACKKKKKKKK
Thank goodness, she was wearing 3 quarter pants, so it really helped. Other than a small tear and some wounds. Maaaaaaaaa, do not panic >.<
Sampai there, the receptionist told us the prof went off to a meeting in UM. *this is where I crash* His secretary gave him a call, after we kept insisting that he told the other dentists he would wait for us.
After a while, another lady dentist came over and said, he told her to have a look at it first. But we needed an X Ray. So we waited for the X Ray. All the time, the place was already clearing up, since it was already 5pm.
Later, the lady dentist kindly explained to us, that she would have to remove the wisdom tooth, since it was causing all the infection. Remove the root of the infection. And a good thing that, the doctor gave us antibiotics, or the numbness would have spread all over the mouth. It happens. O.o
The whole time, 2 nurses was helping her. by the time the tooth was out, (it took 2 shots of painkiller, apparently wisdom tooth is very deep in, and a good thing it wasn't in the bone, or that would take a surgery to remove it)
Dad pops up and phones me to check where we were. Hahaha XD A sigh of relief, I can follow him back. Remember my utter luck at reaching the place? I was wondering how to get out and back home.
Memang ke pohlar, my dad. He turns up and the lady had to explain again. She was very nice and even apologised that the blood dripped on mum's short since they had packed things up and didn't take ou the bib-like thing.
I was like, "dad, stop bugging her, it's way over their working hours already"
And then I asked, how much to pay, and she said nah, it's fine.
EHHHHHH?
And then I realised it was 6pm, even the cashier had closed already, plus, mum took totally ragged with the tear on her pants. hahaha XD
My first time experiencing public healthcare and I'm really impressed. She spoke great english and was very polite. Plus, the others was equally nice as well. Even when we kept them working overtime.
And here I thought public hospitals were horrid, maybe in other sectors, but certainly not that dental faculty.
While we were waiting earlier, a lady who came with her slightly handicapped child told us, 'They're really nice people here and it's very cheap too". Her daughter had the fear of dentists since young and given her mental state, it was cerainly much harder to get over it. But those nurses and dentists were coaxing her and praising her all the time.
I must admit, I had expected a 'Come back another day" speech since we were slightly late. But this has totally changed my opinion. There's still hope in public healthcare after all. *O*
A total of an extra week of MC for mum. And me, I kinda had to stepped in her shoes for a while. Plus waiting on her. With mum at home, I actually had to cook dinner. T^T She insisted eating out everytime was not healthly. I became a chaeuffer too. haha XD
I could almost understand the pain, I had a horrid toothache once too.
Much later, mum found out through her colleagues and relatives who checked in on her that wisdom tooth is a horror. Apparently it has to be remove somehow, as in all wisdom tooths should be removed at a point in life. Worst cases, involving the tiooth embedded into the bones, requires surgery.
GAKKKKk.....I'm dreading to reach middle age.
On a lighter note, I was mentioning to dad about mum's extra 'holiday'
Me: Sooo, mum gets an extra week of hols due to the toothache....What would you prefer, extra hols or toothache? =P
Dad: I rather go to work than to have that toothache.
Me: >__> But you get to stay home wut.
Dad: Look at your mum, the toothache seems awfully painful.
Me: Good point. I had something similar before, remember? And it hurts like crap. You can't eat, can't sleep, can't do pretty much anything with the constant pain. I even cried out of pain. u.u
